Preparing For Winter

Dog owners have a lot to prepare for when winter weather conditions approach. Just like us, dogs are affected by the cold also. There’s a common misconception that because of their fur, dogs can tolerate the cold better than humans, which isn’t necessarily true. We must take extra steps to keep our furry friends safe from cold-related injury or worse.

  • TRIM FOOT FUZZ - Hair on the feet of long-haired dogs can form ice balls between pads and toes.

  • COZY BED - Don’t let your pup sleep on a cold floor in the winter. A warm blanket/a dog bed can keep your pooch off of cold tiles or uncarpeted floors.

  • HYDRATED - Keep your dog properly hydrated. Even though your dog might eat snow, it is no substitute for water.

  • PAW CARE - Wipe down paws after walks to prevent foot cracks and to remove any salt that could have been on sidewalks.

These small steps can make a world of difference in keeping our pups happy and comfortable.
